Immediate Surgical Obturator
Its purpose is to provide a matrix upon which the surgical packing can be placed, minimizes contamination of the wound in the immediate postoperative period, and enables the patient to speak and swallow effectively immediately after surgery. As healing progresses this type of prothesis requires relining (meaning add or remove material to best fit the structure of the mouth). We estimate the patient's healing time between 3-5 months.
